Message from Head of Department Electrical Engineering
On behalf of the Electrical Engineering Department of the College of Engineering Pune, it brings me great pleasure to welcome you. The Department was established in 1932 with UG program. It started its PG program in 1952. It currently hosts the UG, three PG, and Ph.D. programs. Over the past 85 years, this Department has produced electrical engineers who have aided national and worldwide industrial growth. The Department has a team of 20 faculty members and well-qualified staff. It presently has well-equipped laboratories and excellent computational facilities. World-class software like MATLAB, Simulink, PSCAD, ETAP, MULTISIM, PSIM, Proteus, Lab view, and MAGNET are available in the Department to work on top-of-the-line projects in various areas of electrical engineering. The indigenously developed laboratory setups are attracting the attention of elite institutes, including the IITs. Some of these setups are first-of-its-kind in the country. The Department is always enthusiastic about conducting various courses and workshops for the faculty and students to permeate technological advances. All undergraduate, postgraduate, and Ph.D. students can participate in co-curricular and extra-curricular activities leading to holistic personality development.
The Department hosts a diverse and vibrant research portfolio in the areas such as Green Energy, Real-Time Robust Control of Actuated Systems, Optimal Control of Power Flow, UPFC, Efficient PM machines, Fuzzy Controllers, Power Converters and Drives, Power quality analysis, and many more. The Department also has excellent testing facilities in high-voltage engineering and testing of rotating machines. Both graduate and undergraduate students benefit significantly from the research activities of our professors, greatly enhancing their educational experience. The Department of Electrical Engineering also has a Center of Excellence in Smart Renewable Energy Systems (SRES). The Center additionally enhances the already outstanding mechanical and electrical engineering curricula. It broadens the scope and expertise to meet the grand challenges in energy and the environment. In the future, establishing the SRES Center will position COEP as the national leader in smart renewable energy systems.
The department has produced alumina have contributed to the success of many top industries: Telco, Siemens, Bajaj, Mercedes-Benz, TATA motors, power industry, Kirloskar, to name a few. The student's senior design projects and research take up real-world challenges along with the various industries and laboratories. Our students have the skills and experience needed to succeed in the field.
