Society of Women Engineers

Society of Women Engineers (SWE) is an international, non-profit educational service organization dedicated to making known the need for women engineers and encouraging young women to consider an engineering education.

COEP SWE Affiliate aims to provide members with the ideal engineering experience through networking and professional development events, personality development workshops, field visits and numerous inspiring keynote lectures by successful women across the globe.

Two years ago, we represented COEP at the WE Local Conference 2017 held at Hyatt Regency, Pune. We also collaborated with Oracle to organize a personality development and CV building workshop for all the young girls. In our effort to collaborate with the international community, we hosted a group of University of Michigan SWE students at our campus which provided us with opportunities to get cultural and social exposure.

Last year, we hosted Dr. Mrs. Anima Sabale, a NASA astrophysicist to interact with us at COEP. We also conducted a CV writing workshop and a field trip in collaboration with Eaton. We have established the first Women's Day celebrations at COEP in 2018 in collaboration with Debate CLub and COEP Literary Society and held a Women In Data Science programme.

This year we collaborated with PyLadies : Pune Chapter to organize a Python 101 Workshops with Ms. Anwesha Das and Mr. Kushal Das (contributors to Python Software Foundation & The TOR Project) training COEP students for free. It covered the basics to one of the most promising tools of modern computing and went well beyond the basics.

We collaborated with Women In Data Science Conference : Pune team in 2019 and collaborated with them as a partner. We jointly conducted a High Impact Presentations Workshop in January 2019 and a Tech Talk on Smart Cities on International Women’s Day 2019. The participation was diverse and the benefits immense.

On the occasion of International Women’s Day, we conducted Women’s Week in COEP with multiple events and programmes to promote discussion on women’s issues, talent and wellbeing among all COEPians. We held 12 Fitness sessions under a trainer at COEP Girls’ Hostel and also held a guided meditation session conducted by a trainer affiliated with the Art Of Living. These took place from February to March 2019.

In collaboration with COEP Debate Society, we conducted a first-of-its -kind Panel Discussion on Women’s Safety and ways to promote healing and create safe spaces with a trained psychologist Dr. Kshipra Moghe (Applied Sciences, COEP), Sneha Bhapkar (engineer at IoTIoT), and a social entrepreneur Ms. Monica Pesswani (The Apprenticeship Project). In collaboration with COEP’s Quiz Club (BCQC) we held a Women-centric quiz and with COEP Literary Club, conducted a multilingual Poetry Slam and Writing competition. We conducted a women’s only Hackathon and an industry-vetted B. Tech project presentation contest to curate and award the technology with maximum social impact.

We also helped in organizing the teaching and other staff’s Women’s Day Celebration event.

Since this club is its fourth year, there is immense scope and potential for all the girls out there to use this opportunity to get associated with this international organization. This provides immense scope to access scholarships, job opportunities, workshops aimed at technical and non-technical skills.
